Legal guardianship

Legal guardianship
means trust.

Anyone can find themselves in a situation where support is needed to manage their personal affairs.

As a court-appointed guardian, I take on this responsibility and support you or your relatives with respect, understanding and expertise.

Legal guardianship — supporting hands
The basics

What is legal guardianship?

The guardianship court defines the areas of responsibility in which legal guardianship is required. This is done in consultation with the person concerned and is based on their individual need for support. Within these areas I represent their interests and make sure that their wishes, needs and will are taken into account.

Individual support

Every guardianship is different. I take the time to understand your life situation and find suitable solutions.

Legal representation

I represent you before authorities, health insurance funds, courts and other institutions.

Reliable support

I am at your side — transparent, reachable and with an open ear for your concerns.

Safeguarding self-determination

My goal is to preserve your self-determination and support you in your decisions.

The process

How to obtain legal guardianship.

From the application to the start of guardianship — an overview of the individual steps of the procedure.

  1. Submit an application

First, you must submit a written application for legal guardianship. This can be filed with the responsible guardianship authority or the guardianship court. Briefly describe why you need support. In addition, a medical certificate or medical opinion documenting the need for guardianship must be enclosed.

  2. Assessment of your support needs

In the next step, the guardianship authority holds a personal meeting with you. Together you discuss which areas you need support in. The guardianship authority then prepares an opinion for the guardianship court.

  3. Search for a suitable guardian

The guardianship authority searches for a suitable legal guardian and establishes contact. A personal meeting then takes place so that you and the guardian can assess whether a trusting cooperation is possible.

  4. Decision by the guardianship court

The guardianship court reviews the documents and hears you in person. The court then decides whether legal guardianship is to be established and for which areas of responsibility it should apply.

  5. Start of guardianship

After the court appointment, your legal guardianship begins. Together with your guardian, the next steps are discussed and support is taken up in the defined areas of responsibility.
